The Swim Set’s adventures began with a challenge on a whim and a trip to Hawaii to swim in the Waikiki Roughwater Swim in 2009.
A sale “2 for 1” flight booked to Waikiki with the promise of blue water and pina coladas. Did I mention we had to swim 3.8km in the ocean as part of the deal!!
How hard could it be? We could swim 900 metres in the flat water at Balmoral.
So with a bit of pool training, that almost ended when we chose a training set made for olympians as our first hit out, we were surely going to be ok with the extra distance.
We trained, we traveled, we karaoked, we swam, we made the distance and finished jubilantly knowing that this was the first of many shared swim adventures.
